<AnswerBox
question="Is Vaset a good place to cycle?"
answer="Vaset is one of Valdres' best starting points for gravel cycling — 880 m above sea level with direct access to Mjølkevegen, Panoramavegen and Stølsvidda. 10 marked routes from 11 to 60 km. Quiet mountain roads, active mountain farms and open landscapes. The season is typically June–September."
/>
Vaset sits at 880 m above sea level in Vestre Slidre — a plateau between Mjølkevegen, Stølsvidda and Golsfjellet. There are no queues, no tourist buses and no noise. Just gravel roads, open skies and mountain farms selling waffles and goat's cheese to passing cyclists.
Mjølkevegen runs straight through. This means you can pick up the national gravel icon route at Vaset and cycle stages in either direction — or use Vaset as a base and explore the local loop routes.

## Panoramavegen — Norway's most beautiful gravel road?
Panoramavegen is Vaset's crown jewel. 28 km of gravel mountain road from Vaset via Nøsen to Flyin — and some claim it is Norway's most beautiful gravel road. It is not an exaggeration.
The road crosses open mountain plateaus at 950–1020 m above sea level with views stretching far into Jotunheimen on clear days. No major climbs, no technical sections — just open gravel road through magnificent Norwegian mountain scenery.
**What you need:** A regular bike with gravel tyres (35 mm+) works fine. An e-bike is no problem — the route is easy and flat enough that the battery lasts the full trip. Bring water — there are no fixed catering stops along the way.
**Season:** June–September. The road typically opens in June after the snowmelt.
**Tip:** Start early in the morning — the light is best for photography and you will have the road to yourself.

## Stølsvidda — cycling through a living cultural landscape
From Vaset, gravel roads lead into Stølsvidda — one of Norway's best-preserved mountain farm landscapes. In summer, the farms are in active use: cows graze, goat's cheese is made, and you can buy waffles and sour cream directly from the farm.
Routes like [Vaset–Nøsen–Gomobu](/ruter/vaset-nosen-gomobu) take you through this landscape. Gomobu Fjellstue is the natural stop — they serve hot food and home-cooked meals in season.

## E-bike at Vaset
<AnswerBox
question="Is Vaset good for e-biking?"
answer="Yes — Vaset is one of the best e-bike areas in Valdres. The relatively flat topography (880 m above sea level plateau) means the battery lasts longer than in the Beitostølen area. Panoramavegen, Tisleifjorden Rundt and Vaset Familierunde are all rated easy for e-bikes."
/>
Most routes in the Vaset area are rated easy to moderate for e-bikes. This means people with average e-bike fitness can complete a full day's riding without running out of battery.
**Charging:** Vaset Fjellhotell offers charging for guests. Bring your charger — there are limited charging options elsewhere in the area.
**Rental:** Limited bike rental at Vaset — bring your own equipment. [Beitostølen](/guider/2026-03-08-beitostolen-sykkelguide) (30 km away) has the best e-bike rental in the region.

## Accommodation and food at Vaset
**Vaset Fjellhotell** is the natural base camp. The hotel sits along Mjølkevegen and is perfect for stage riders. Half board (breakfast + dinner) is the practical choice after long gravel sessions. Bike parking and equipment washing facilities are available.
**Gomobu Fjellstue** is the best food stop along the way — see [Vaset–Nøsen–Gomobu](/ruter/vaset-nosen-gomobu). Typically opens in June and closes in September.
**Active mountain farms** along Stølsvidda sell produce in season. You will know by the smell — freshly baked flatbread and goat's cheese are not uncommon.

## Practical information
**Parking:** Vaset centre, free. A good starting point for all the loop routes.
**Transport:** Vaset is reached by car from Fagernes (approx. 35 km, 40 min via Rv34 and Fv290). There is no bus service suited for cyclists directly to Vaset — the backup plan is Fagernes by bus and taxi onwards.
**Mobile coverage:** Reasonably good at Vaset centre (Telenor and Telia), but weaker on Stølsvidda and along Panoramavegen. Download routes in Komoot or on a GPS device in advance.
**Best season:** July and August offer the best cycling conditions — lower risk of snow and the most open mountain farms. June is possible, but check road opening status. September is beautiful (autumn colours) but cooler.
