About Valdres

One of Norway's most beautiful and underrated regions for cycling.

Valdres — the mountain region for cyclists

Valdres is a Norwegian mountain region stretching from lowland forests in the south to the 2000-metre peaks of Jotunheimen in the north. The region is known for its rich culture, living mountain farm tradition and dramatic scenery.

For cyclists, Valdres is a paradise with enormous variety. From quiet country roads along the valleys to Norway's highest national highway (Valdresflya, 1389 m), from gentle gravel roads through deep forests to technical MTB trails towards Bitihorn. All within a short distance.

Four cycling regions in one

Fagernes and the valley floor — the natural starting point for most cyclists. Good infrastructure, accommodation, bike rental and connections by train (Bergensbanen + bus).

Beitostølen — best known for cross-country skiing, but also home to the Trail Arena with 100+ km of marked MTB trails. Electric bike rental available.

Valdresflya — Norway's highest national highway (Rv51). The climb from Fagernes to the plateau at 1389 m is one of the country's most iconic cycling experiences.

Mjølkevegen — 250 km gravel route through mountain farm landscape from Vinstra to Aurland. Considered one of Norway's best multi-day cycling routes.
