# E-Bike Loop Rides in Valdres — 5 Day Trips with Battery Plan
E-bikes and Valdres are a natural combination. The valleys give you long, flat stretches where you save battery. The mountain roads give you climbs where you truly need the assistance. And the loop rides — starting and finishing at the same place — mean you don't have to plan transport back.
<AnswerBox question="What e-bike loop rides are available in Valdres?" answer="Valdres has loop rides from 18 to 55 km suited for e-bikes. Popular choices are Fagernes–Leira (22 km, flat), Stølsvidda summer farm loop (28 km, moderate), Beitostølen around Bitihorn (35 km, hilly) and the Panoramavegen loop (45 km, mountain road). All are doable with a standard 500 Wh battery in tour mode." />

## Before You Start — Battery Basics for Valdres
<StatGrid stats={[
{ label: "500 Wh in eco mode", value: "80–100 km", sub: "Flat valley road, little wind, 75 kg rider" },
{ label: "500 Wh in tour mode", value: "50–70 km", sub: "Hilly terrain, typical Valdres route" },
{ label: "500 Wh in sport mode", value: "30–45 km", sub: "Steep climbs, gravel, headwind" },
{ label: "Cold weather effect", value: "−15–25 %", sub: "Below 10°C you lose noticeable capacity" }
]} columns={2} />
**Golden rule:** Use eco on flat roads, tour on moderate climbs, and sport only on steep sections. Switch actively along the way — it can double your range.
**The Valdres trap:** The valley is warm, the mountains are cold. A ride that starts at 20°C in Fagernes can hit 8°C on Stølsvidda. A cold battery performs worse. Start with a fully charged battery and keep the bike indoors the night before.

## Route 1: Fagernes–Leira E-Bike Loop (22 km)
The easiest loop — perfect for your first day or those who want a relaxed ride with plenty of margin.
<StatGrid stats={[
{ label: "Distance", value: "22 km", sub: "Loop from Fagernes town centre" },
{ label: "Elevation gain", value: "180 m", sub: "Evenly distributed, no steep sections" },
{ label: "Surface", value: "75% asphalt, 25% light gravel", sub: "Along the Begna river and through Leira" },
{ label: "Battery use (500 Wh)", value: "~20%", sub: "Eco mode the whole way" },
{ label: "Time", value: "1.5–2.5 hours", sub: "Including café and photo stops" },
{ label: "Suitable for", value: "All levels", sub: "Children in tag-alongs, seniors, beginners" }
]} columns={2} />
**The route:** Start in [Fagernes](/omrade/fagernes) town centre. Follow the cycle path along the Begna river northward to Leira. Cross over at Leira and take the rural road back along the east side. Flat, peaceful, and with river views the entire way.
**Charging:** Not necessary — you'll use less than a quarter of the battery. Fagernes town centre has charging options at Scandic Valdres and the tourist information office.
**Why e-bike:** Headwinds along the Begna can make the return harder than expected. With an e-bike, you'll barely notice.
---
## Route 2: Stølsvidda Summer Farm Loop (28 km)
Combine e-biking with authentic summer farm culture. Gravel roads through Northern Europe's most active summer farming landscape.
<StatGrid stats={[
{ label: "Distance", value: "28 km", sub: "Loop from Vaset" },
{ label: "Elevation gain", value: "400 m", sub: "Gradual climb to summer pastures, fast descent" },
{ label: "Surface", value: "90% compact gravel, 10% asphalt", sub: "Wide farm roads, well maintained" },
{ label: "Battery use (500 Wh)", value: "~35%", sub: "Tour mode, eco on flat gravel" },
{ label: "Time", value: "2.5–4 hours", sub: "Including farm visits and lunch break" },
{ label: "Best time", value: "July–August", sub: "Active farms selling cheese and flatbread" }
]} columns={2} />
**The route:** Start from [Vaset](/guider/vaset-sykkelguide) and take the farm road northeast toward the Stølsvidda plateau. Pass several active summer farms selling goat cheese, sour cream, and freshly baked lefse (Norwegian flatbread). Loop via the summer pastures with [Jotunheimen panorama](/omrade/stolsvidda) from 1,000 m elevation.
**Charging:** Not necessary with a 500 Wh battery. If you have 300 Wh, ride in eco on flat sections and save sport for the final climb.
**E-bike advantage:** The gravel roads have sections with 5–7% gradient that demand a lot on a regular bike. With an e-bike in tour mode, you'll barely notice the climb — and can focus on the farm experience instead of your heart rate.

## Route 3: Beitostølen–Bitihorn Loop (35 km)
Hilly forest roads and mountain terrain around Beitostølen's signature peak. More demanding, but the rewards are great.
<StatGrid stats={[
{ label: "Distance", value: "35 km", sub: "Loop from Beitostølen centre" },
{ label: "Elevation gain", value: "550 m", sub: "Steep section toward Bitihorn, rest moderate" },
{ label: "Surface", value: "50% asphalt, 30% gravel, 20% forest road", sub: "Varied — some rocky sections" },
{ label: "Battery use (500 Wh)", value: "~50%", sub: "Tour mode, sport on steep sections" },
{ label: "Time", value: "3–5 hours", sub: "Depending on stops and pace" },
{ label: "Difficulty", value: "Moderate", sub: "Requires some cycling experience on gravel" }
]} columns={2} />
**The route:** Start from [Beitostølen](/guider/beitostolen-sykkelguide) centre. Take the cycle road westward, then north toward the foot of Bitihorn via forest roads. Round Bitihorn on the south side and take the asphalt road back via Rv51. The descent from the Bitihorn area offers Jotunheimen views all the way down.
**Battery plan:** Ride in eco for the first 10 km (flat asphalt). Switch to tour when the gravel road begins. Use sport only on the steepest 2–3 km toward Bitihorn. You'll arrive home with 40–50% remaining.
**Charging:** [Beitostølen](/omrade/beitostolen) centre has charging options. Radisson Blu Resort Beitostølen and several cafés let you charge while you eat.

## Route 4: Panoramavegen E-Bike Loop (45 km)
Valdres' most spectacular scenic road as a loop ride. Demanding without an e-bike — comfortable with one.
<StatGrid stats={[
{ label: "Distance", value: "45 km", sub: "Loop: Beitostølen–Panoramavegen–Rv51" },
{ label: "Elevation gain", value: "680 m", sub: "Steady climb to 1,100 m elevation" },
{ label: "Surface", value: "70% asphalt, 30% well-maintained gravel", sub: "Panoramavegen is partly gravel" },
{ label: "Battery use (500 Wh)", value: "~60%", sub: "Tour all the way, eco on descents" },
{ label: "Time", value: "4–6 hours", sub: "With photo stops — and you WILL stop" },
{ label: "Season", value: "June–September", sub: "Panoramavegen may have snow in May" }
]} columns={2} />
**The route:** Start in Beitostølen. Cycle south toward Rv51, turn off toward [Panoramavegen](/guider/panoramavegen-sykkelguide). Follow it westward with views of Jotunheimen and the Valdres valleys below you. Round the top at 1,100 m and take Rv51 back to Beitostølen.
**Why e-bike makes the difference:** Panoramavegen has long stretches with 4–6% gradient in mountain terrain. Without an e-bike, this is a ride for trained cyclists. With an e-bike in tour mode, it's an achievable day trip for recreational riders and active seniors.
**Wind warning:** [Panoramavegen](/guider/panoramavegen-sykkelguide) is open mountain terrain above the tree line. Headwind can increase battery consumption by 20–30%. Check [yr.no](https://yr.no) and plan so you have a tailwind on the longest stretch.

## Route 5: Slidredalen Historical Loop (38 km)
Cultural history and quiet rural roads along Slidrefjorden. The most underrated e-bike route in Valdres.
<StatGrid stats={[
{ label: "Distance", value: "38 km", sub: "Loop from Lomen/Røn" },
{ label: "Elevation gain", value: "350 m", sub: "Rolling terrain, no steep breakpoints" },
{ label: "Surface", value: "80% asphalt, 20% compact gravel", sub: "Rural roads along Slidrefjorden" },
{ label: "Battery use (500 Wh)", value: "~30%", sub: "Eco mostly, tour on hills" },
{ label: "Time", value: "3–4.5 hours", sub: "With stops at stave churches and viewpoints" },
{ label: "Cultural highlights", value: "2 stave churches", sub: "Lomen and Slidre stave church along the route" }
]} columns={2} />
**The route:** Start from Lomen or Røn in [Slidredalen](/omrade/slidre-dalen). Cycle along the west side of Slidrefjorden past [Lomen stave church](/guider/stavkirkene-valdres-sykkelguide), continuing to Slidre. Cross over and take the east side back along quiet rural roads. The fjord mirrors the mountains on still days.
**E-bike advantage:** Slidredalen has long, almost imperceptible climbs that drain your energy over time. In eco mode, you maintain a steady pace without getting tired — and can spend your energy actually enjoying the stave churches and viewpoints.
**Charging:** Not necessary. 30% battery use gives you enormous margin.

## Charging Guide — Where to Charge in Valdres
<StatGrid stats={[
{ label: "Fagernes centre", value: "Tourist info + Scandic Valdres", sub: "Power outlet available, ask at reception" },
{ label: "Beitostølen", value: "Scandic + cafés", sub: "Several places with available power" },
{ label: "Mountain lodges", value: "Along Mjølkevegen", sub: "Most will let you charge for a smile" },
{ label: "Vaset", value: "Accommodation and shop", sub: "Limited options — charge in advance" }
]} columns={2} />
**Rule of thumb:** Always charge the evening before. Start the day at 100%. Most loop rides in this guide require less than 60% of a 500 Wh battery — you always have margin.
**Extra battery:** If you have a ride over 50 km planned, consider bringing a spare battery. Several rental shops in Valdres offer extra battery packs.

## Practical Tips for E-Biking in Valdres
**Tyres:** The gravel roads in Valdres require minimum 35 mm tyres. For Stølsvidda and Panoramavegen, 40 mm+ with light tread is recommended. The asphalt routes (1 and 5) are fine with 28–32 mm.
**Renting an e-bike:** lokal operatør in Beitostølen and Fagernes have e-bikes for hire. Book well in advance for July — it's peak season. See [Renting a Bike in Valdres](/guider/leie-sykkel-valdres) for up-to-date information.
**Combine routes:** Routes 1 and 5 can be combined over two days based in Fagernes. Routes 2, 3, and 4 work as a three-day programme from Beitostølen. See [Cycling Weekend in Valdres](/guider/sykkelhelg-valdres-komplett-guide) for multi-day planning.
